Sometimes you just have to.
Don’t get me wrong. I love doing comms work, I like the process, the fact that you have to convince yourself first, the creativity. But sometimes you have to reject a job.
My number one reason for rejecting a contract is not being able to choose the people I want to work with. The designer, the coder, the printer. I have no exclusive contacts. I search and I select the best person for each job so it’s not about maintaining my network.
It’s about responsibility
If I am taking responsibility for the end result give me a budget and let me sort it out. Take that away from me and I can’t do my job.
It’s about your reputation
You are hiring me. Then trust me. Otherwise you have to find someone else. I will protect your reputation but you have to let me do it.
It’s about my reputation as well
No, I don’t want your friend who thinks he knows what he’s doing to set up your website. I’m not associating my name with that.
It’s about a job well-done
No, it’s not about the money. It’s about getting up in the morning and really wanting to deal with your stuff.
How ’bout you? Why would you say no?

Team work is everything
No, it is not about you telling me what to do. Yes, it is that we do have to find and to build the right communication chemistry between us. This may take more time to be build but it is the key. It is not chit- chatting it is about work flow.
It is not about my attitude
No, I do not think that I know everything, but I do have an opinion. If you do not want to listen to it, why do you hire me?
Be clear about what you want from me.
If you are not, there will be sure a problem.
Everybody in a team is important
Nobody can do everything. Everyone has his field.
…totally agree with what you write above.
I like your phrase 'right communication chemistry' and I agree, without that working with someone is a bit of a problem.
I also agree about the 'telling me what to do' thing. You don't hire a specialist and then proceed to tell them how you think they should do it. If that's what you want, hire an administrator and do it yourself.
