Conflicting priorities in StartUps

Why do people have such conflicting priorities in a start-up environment?

I’ve been thinking about this the last few months – especially whenever I talk about the engagement plan, twitter presence the PR plan and the press pack. People’s eyes around me kinda go out of focus.

It’s only natural. For one very specific reason I think.

People working in start-ups are passionate about what they do, their priorities are about what they care most about. Our designer cares about design, our programmer about the database, our marketing guy for the marketing plan.

And you know what? After about a year with these guys I think that it can only be a good thing. At least we all bring some passion to the table and what we do matters to us.

I reckon that’s very close to professional zen.

How about you. Any good / bad things about the start up environment?
