I have heard of how expensive space is in Silicon Valley but if my experience in London is anything to go by then I feel for you guys. Over here in Old Albion we tend to pay very high rents for very old properties (I’m talking start of the previous century). So who wouldn’t like some free hotdesking?
London is also a hub of startup activity. You name it, Londoners do it. But when you are struggling with a new business venture expenses mount up and rent is a major expense. Us being an enterprising lot over here we tend to improvise solutions of course. Some designer friends tend to hotdesk in each other’s premises, so anyone who rents an office usually offers a desk for some of their friends who do freelance work. But still, you need to know someone with premises.

Why should you do this? The same reason that my designer friends do it. The same reason that the best stockbrokers sit all together with their manager somewhere in the middle. Say what you will about technology and working from home but the truth of the matter is that proximity to other people equally interested in what you’re doing can give you a lot of information and a lot of ideas.
